Starting the day trailing by 40 runs, Afghanistan ended it with a lead of 205 runs. Rahmat Shah was the star of the show, scoring a magnificent century to anchor the Afghan innings. He received excellent support from debutant Ismat Alam, who notched up a brilliant half-century.

8.14pm  UPDATE - 2.44 pm GMT - An intense downpour has brought play to a halt, with the ground staff quickly rushing to cover the pitch. The rain appears to be more than just a passing shower, casting doubt on the possibility of further play today. We'll have to wait and see if the weather improves.
